Exhibit of "Fidelio" inspired artwork at the St. Petersburg Opera Company

  • Creative Clay 1846 1st Avenue South Saint Petersburg, FL, 33712 (map)

The artists of Creative Clay, inspired by Beethoven’s opera Fidelio, created new artwork on exhibit at the St. Petersburg Opera Company during March and April.

The collection of work includes paintings and drawings of the opera’s characters and scenes, as well as portraits of Beethoven. The themes of Fidelio are justice, freedom and the power of the human spirit.

Leading up to their artmaking, the artists listened to the music of Beethoven, heard the story of the opera, studied the life of Beethoven and his years in Vienna where he produced his opera Fidelio, and learned about German and Viennese art history. The artists drew sketches in the studio and created artwork of their inspirations.

The St. Petersburg Opera Company invited the artists to attend the dress rehearsal of Fidelio, on March 22 at the Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg. Performances of Fidelio at the Palladium Theater are March 24- 28.

Fidelio inspired artwork, consisting of 16 paintings, is on exhibit March 1 - April 30, 2023, at the St. Petersburg Opera Company, located at 2145 First Avenue South, St. Petersburg, Florida 33712. Visitors are welcome Monday through Friday, 1p.m. to 5 p.m.
